Bandai Namco has announced that Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown, one of its best games in recent years is finally making the jump to the Nintendo Switch, giving users of the console a new game in a rare genre.
The Switch certainly doesn't have many air combat games, and to be fair, that can be said of every platform. That's going to change for the better this summer with Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown Deluxe Edition.
To be precise, the game (which we recently learned sold over 5 million copies) will be released on Switch on July 11, 2024, so there are a few months left to wait.
To sweeten the deal for Switch users, the package will come with plenty of DLC previously released on other platforms. Here's the full list of content of the Deluxe Edition.
- Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown base game
- Downloadable content " Three original aircraft sets" + "Three SP missions"
- Part 1 “Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown – ADF-11F Raven Set”
- Part 2 “Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown – ADF-01 FALKEN Set”
- Part 3 “Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown – ADFX-01 Morgan Set”
- Part 4 “Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown – Unexpected Visitor”
- Part 5 “Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown – Anchorhead Raid”
- Part 6 “Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown – Ten Million Relief Plan”
- Bonus “Music Player Mode”
- Playable Aircraft F-104C -Avril-
- Playable Aircraft F-4E Phantom II
- Three popular aircraft skins from the past series
- 8 popular emblems of the past series
That's certainly a lot of air combat gameplay in a neat little package. Yet, you'll notice that not all the DLC released for other platforms is included. For instance, Switch users won't immediately get the Top Gun: Maverick DLC. The press release mentions more will come after launch.
The release will be exclusively digital, and below you can take a look at a comparison against the PS4 version.
Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown is currently available for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. If you'd rather get a physical copy for the platforms that have the option, you can purchase one on Amazon.
If you'd like to know why you should grab the game, you can read our review, in which our Sam Guglielmo awarded the game with an 8.5 out of 10.
A new Ace Combat game is currently in development in partnership with ILCA, but the developers are keeping their cards close to their chests for now. We do know that it's being developed with Epic Games' Unreal Engine 5.
