Arcade games are typically games with shorter levels, increasingly harder difficulty with each passing level, and simple but intuitive controls.
These games share the same characteristics as their coin-operated counterparts due to the type of environment built around arcades, where players would have to pay additional coins to continue playing after death. While not the same, as you can't add a coin into your PS4 slot (seriously, don't), the genre is meant to emulate the gameplay as much as possible, and encompasses a wide range of additional genres as well.
