Fae Farm Tools Guide - Cover Image Upgrading to Gold Watering Can at Cinder the Blacksmith

This Fae Farm Tools Guide will tell you how to get all of the Tools, how they work, and how you can upgrade them to make them more powerful!

Fae Farm has a lot of cool stuff to collect. You'll need to catch Critters, gather valuable ore through Mining, and cut various kinds of Grass. In most cases, you'll be using specialized Tools to get these goodies; in this guide, we'll tell you how Tools work and how you can upgrade them!

Fae Farm Tools Guide - Using the Critter Net to Catch a Snail
The five core Tools are context-sensitive; for example, you'll automatically use the Axe if you target a Tree. The Fishing Rod, Creature Net, and Staff must be deliberately selected.

How to Unlock the Fae Farm Tools

Here's how to unlock all of the Fae Farm Tools.

  • The Ax, Pickax, Sickle, Shovel, and Watering Can are unlocked through some of the first Quests as detailed in our Starter Guide.
  • The Fishing Rod is unlocked in a subsequent Quest after you've unlocked the five basic Tools.
  • The Creature Net is unlocked in a subsequent Quest after you've unlocked the Fishing Rod.
  • The Staff is unlocked in a subsequent Quest after you've unlocked the Creature Net.

How Tools Work in Fae Farm

Generally speaking, using any of the Tools in Fae Farm will expend some of your Stamina to complete an action. The sole exception is the Staff; using its basic attack does not cost any Stamina whatsoever.

The five core Tools -- the Ax, Pickax, Sickle, Shovel, and Watering Can -- will automatically be used depending on the context. For example, clicking on Ore will automatically use the Pickax. The Critter Net, Fishing Rod, and Staff must be deliberately selected in order to use them.

Additionally, the five core Tools will gain special abilities once you upgrade them to Iron. The Watering Can, for example, can water a 3x3 area by pressing the Magic button in exchange for some Mana.

Tools do not have durability and they do not break.

Cinder the Blacksmith can upgrade your five main Tools, but you'll need to go elsewhere to upgrade your Fishing Rod, Critter Net, and Staff.

How to Upgrade Tools in Fae Farm

Here's how to upgrade Tools in Fae Farm.

  • The Ax, Pickax, Sickle, Shovel, and Watering Can are upgraded at Cinder the Blacksmith at the Docks in exchange for Florins (Money) and Ingots acquired through Mining.
  • The Critter Net is upgraded by purchasing newer versions from Mel in West Town once you reach the appropriate Level in Critter Catching
  • The Fishing Rod is upgraded by Eddy in Stay-A-While Bay once you reach the appropriate Level in Fishing.
  • The Staff is upgraded automatically as you complete Dungeons and progress the Story.
