A new Five Nights at Freddy's spinoff game has been leaked, but in a rather surprising twist, the game's existence has also been confirmed by the series' creator.
From the leaked trailer (which you can see here), Five Nights at Freddy's: Into the Pit appears to be some kind of pixel art horror adventure game, and it also looks to be adapting the first story in the novella collection of the same name.
When the trailer was leaked, Five Nights at Freddy's fans took to Reddit to warn others against talking about the leak, but then series creator Scott Cawthon intervened.
In a comment posted on the aforementioned Reddit thread, Cawthon says there's "no need to keep it all hush-hush" and that the leak is "fine".
He says he was originally planning to keep Into the Pit a secret for a little longer, and that the project will coincide with the upcoming tenth anniversary of Five Nights at Freddy's.
Cawthon doesn't reveal who the developer on the project is or when we can expect it to launch, but Reddit sleuths might have already figured out the former, at least.
According to Redditor ImAnthlon, WrestleQuest developer Mega Cat Studios' YouTube channel is host to a now-private video entitled "FNAF Sizzle - Private and Unlisted", which "seems to show a 2D pixel horror game in development".
As documented by Redditor TailiaCProd, book company Scholastic also teased a game by the name of Into the Pit in some of its recent marketing materials.
With all of this evidence mounting (as well as an official confirmation by Cawthon himself, no less), it seems it's only a matter of time before Five Nights at Freddy's: Into the Pit is officially unveiled.
Stay tuned for more info on this one, as well as all other things Five Nights at Freddy's-related.
