Fans of Games Workshop's complex tabletop miniatures games have been well-fed recently. In addition to major changes to points values as well as rules changes across both Warhammer 40k and Warhammer Age of Sigmar, a brand new edition of Horus Heresy has been released. While this dark, pivotal era of Games Workshop's grimdark sci-fi universe has been a staple, tying into certain recurring characters' backstories, players have only really experienced this era on the ground. That is until the most recent announcement of Horus Heresy: Aeronautica Imperialis.
What Is Horus Heresy: Aeronautica Imperialis?
According to an official Warhammer-Community post, Horus Heresy: Aeronautica Imperialis is a new rulebook for the aircraft combat Warhammer 40k spin-off game. The rulebook layers on various mechanics and elements from Horus Heresy on top of the pre-existing rules of Aeronautica Imperialis. You'll still be dodge rolling, shaking off in-coming target locks, as well as performing air raids and bombing runs, it'll just be as either the Imperium Loyalists of the Traitor Legions.
The new Horus Heresy: Aeronautica Imperialis will include rules for all planes used by the Legiones Astartes. These will include the iconic Thunderhawk Gunship as well as new rules from the Divisio Aeronautica, which include Thunderbolts, Marauders, and even the deadly Ares Gunship. Furthermore, there will be unique upgrades for all 18 Legions, allowing you to put your own spin on the various warring sides in this part of Warhammer history.
Finally, Horus Heresy: Aeronautica Imperialis will include new lore. This will include extensive details about the fall of the Forge World Vanaheim as well as eight different scenarios for you to play out different stages of that battle.
When Will Horus Heresy: Aeronautica Imperialis Be Available?
At the time of writing, Games Workshop hasn't given a release date for Horus Heresy: Aeronautica Imperialis. In addition, there is no release date for any ships mentioned above. As always, however, you can always sign up for their newsletter for any updates on this and future books.
