Gen Con is the largest hobby gaming convention in North America, and with each year, it is growing in both the number of attendees as well as the number of events and exhibitors. The yearly event boasted over 61,000 total badge holders and a turnstile attendance of 200,000 last year, having grown exponentially over the last five years and doubling attendance since 2010. Gen Con has been hosted in Indianapolis since 2003, always making its home in the Indiana Convention Center downtown. Due to the growth of the popular convention, it will now be expanding some of its events into the home of the Indianapolis Colts: Lucas Oil Stadium.
Gen Con 2016 Expanding Into Lucas Oil Stadium
For the 2016 event, which is set to take place August 4-7th, Gen Con plans to expand into Lucas Oil Stadium for some of its larger events while still utilizing the space of the Indiana Convention Center. One of these large events is True Dungeon, an event that has sold out within hours of posting ticket sales in the last few years. True Dungeon is a life-size gaming experience that creates an environment where players can work together to solve puzzles and a battle monster in true Dungeoneering fashion, and it has even built a small economy around the "tokens" that give players equipment and abilities. Because of the new and improved area in which the event will be held, True Dungeon 2016 will feature a lava cavern and underground city. To find out more about True Dungeon, check out their site.
At this time, no news has been posted of what other events will be moved or hosted in Lucas Oil Stadium, but attendees will be able to access the new space via a corridor that directly connects the space to the Indiana Convention Center. The show plans to announce more events in the coming months, well ahead of the August 4th start of the convention.
