Today Cygames released a new update for its JRPG Granblue Fantasy: Relink, while the game appears to be very popular among the Steam crowd.
The update, numbered Ver 1.0.4 includes quite a lot of relevant fixes to bugs and issues that have been reported by players, so it's quite welcome to make the experience smoother.
Especially, Steam players have been affected by crashes and issues running the game at all, which the patch aims to at least mitigate.
Below you can read the patch notes:
Changes from Ver. 1.0.3:
- [Battles] Fixed a bug where pressing the guard button in succession made it easier to trigger a perfect guard.
- [Quests] Fixed a rare bug where rewards weren't given when unlocking new quest difficulties.
- [Side Quests] Fixed a bug where rewards weren't given when playing on Ultimate difficulty.
- [Online] Fixed certain issues with matchmaking.
- [System] Introduced measures to mitigate bugs that are preventing the Steam version of the game from running properly. We are continuing to work diligently to address and fix the cause of these bugs.
- [Misc.] Various bug fixes.
About Missing Rewards:
As mentioned above in the changes from ver. 1.0.3, players who were unable to get their rewards for unlocking new quest difficulties or clearing certain side quests may now collect them from Siero's Knickknack Shack. The affected rewards are as follows:
- Crewmate Card from unlocking new quest difficulties
- Reward items (excludes EXP, MSP, and rupies) for completing the side quest Save the Crustaceans
- Reward items (excludes EXP, MSP, and rupies) for completing the side quest Save the Crustaceans Rises
- Reward items (excludes EXP, MSP, and rupies) for completing the side quest Save the Crustaceans Finale
- Reward items (excludes EXP, MSP, and rupies) for completing the side quest A Lingering Regret
- Reward items (excludes EXP, MSP, and rupies) for completing the side quest Out of Serpentine Spite
Despite the issues, the game appears to be very popular on Steam. According to the monitoring site SteamDB, today it has passed 100,000 concurrent users (currently at 103,248) on Valve's platform. That's very flattering considering that among the games tagged as "JRPG" only Monster Hunter: World and Monster Hunter Rise ever managed to do better.
This certainly bodes well for Cygames' labor of love, especially considering that the total player counts are likely to be much higher if you count the PS5 and PS4 versions. If you'd like to know the reasons behind its popularity, you can read our enthusiastic review which awarded it with a 9.5 out of 10.
Granblue Fantasy: Relink is currently available for PS5, PS4, and PC. If you'd like to give it a try you can purchase a physical copy on Amazon.

If you're interested in the franchise in general, Cygames shared news about the fighting game Final Fantasy Versus: Rising, including the release date of version 1.2 and of the DLC which will bring 2B from NieR: Automata as a guest character.
