Developer and publisher 10 Chambers has announced that GTFO, their hardcore horror FPS, will be releasing later this year after about two years of development on Steam's Early Access program and six years of development in total. The GTFO release date hasn't been fully announced as of yet, but considering we're halfway through October it's not like there's a lot of time to wait still.
The game has received a lot of updates in the leadup to this announcement, and has even received a VR mod, which is pretty cool considering it's a horror title. It should add to the immersion and make it a more fun experience, right? Just don't forget your brown pants in the meantime.
“During the Early Access phase, we have delivered a total of 50 expeditions in our five Rundowns, throwing a range of tough challenges to our community. There have been theories that this concept is something we're just using during Early Access to try out different gameplay mechanics, but I am happy to say that the Rundown updates will continue with GTFO in Version 1.0,” said Simon Viklund, Narrative Director and Composer at 10 Chambers.
GTFO is a title where a four-player team of players are held against their will by The Warden, a mysterious entity who sends players out on expeditions that force players to "communicate, coordinate, and manage their ammunition". Failing to do so will most likely result in a gory death, which if that's what you're into have fun I suppose. However, if your three companions might not enjoy that so be sure to do so with caution.
“With the success of GTFO's Early Access launch, we've been able to grow our development team and give each part of the game the focus it deserves. The game will have a very noticeable transition from Early Access to Version 1.0, richer in content, but also the quality of life down in the Complex – stuff like better glass rendering, new third person animations, a handy communication wheel, and weapons that move more realistically. Small stuff, but when you add it all up – and it's a lot of stuff, it gives you an even better experience of the game,” said Ulf Andersson, CEO at 10 Chambers.
During GTFO's time on Steam's Early Access, the studio kept developing with no firm release date in mind, as they wanted to wait until the game had "an enjoyable amount of in-game content and quality of life features" before launching their title. That makes sense, and it's nice to see that GTFO version 1.0 will also come with improvements to the game's graphical rendering, new animations, and enhanced online matchmaking among other things on the GTFO release date.
The price of GTFO will also rise slightly on November 1st: up from $34.99 to $39.99. If you want to get on board the hardcore horror FPS at a cheaper price, you have a few weeks before it becomes more expensive to GTFO.
