Rio Grande Games has announced a new board game. The New Mexico-based company has produced many beloved titles in the past like Dominion, Race for the Galaxy, and a wide variety of train games. Now, they have Evacuation, a board game about escaping a dying planet.
The Evacuation Board Game Announcement
According to ICV2, the Evacuation board game is a competitive resource management experience.
The setup goes something like this. Each is in command of a nation occupying a planet slowly being roasted by its sun. Thankfully, there is a perfectly inhabitable planet nearby. Each player has the means to get there, but the race is on to see who can get there first.
This is easier said than done. At the start of the game, each player's nation has a fully functional economy. But in order to gain resources to invest in life in the new world, parts of that economy must be strategically dismantled and relocated.
Do you invest in transportation to get resources to the new world faster? Maybe you can get this new planet to produce new resources for itself. The first player to establish three stadiums in this new world after four rounds, wins the game.
According to the store page entry on Rio Grande's website, the Evacuation board game was designed by Vladimir Suchy and features artwork by Michal Piechl.
Suchy's body of work is mostly in economic management and civilization games like Woodcraft, Underwater Cities, and The Prodigals Club. Piechl has some design credits as well such as 2020's Divočina and the card game Trample Beasts.
A game of Evacuation can take between 90-120 minutes to complete. The game is designed for 1-4 players who are at least 14 years of age, and alternative modes of play are available out of the box.
Evacuation will be available in retail stores around Q4 2023. It will be sold at an MSRP of $69.99.
