Paramount has announced the release date for the upcoming Knuckles live-action series, as well as debuting the first trailer for the show.

Originally announced in February 2022, Knuckles will air via Paramount Plus on April 26th. It'll consist of six episodes.

The show revolves around Knuckles, played once again by Idris Elba, as he attempts to adjust to life after the events of the second Sonic the Hedgehog movie.

Knuckles returns once again in, er, Knuckles.

The story kicks off as Knuckles agrees to train Adam Pally's Wade, who makes a return from Sonic the Hedgehog 2, in "the ways of the Echidna warrior".

Before long, though, a former employee of Dr. Robotnik's enlists a pair of agents to "bring [him] Knuckles" in order to work on his newest creation.

As the trailer closes out, the agents ambush Knuckles at a bowling alley, upon which Knuckles and an agent wearing a heavy gauntlet collide anime-style.

The trailer suggests that Knuckles will hit many of the same beats as the first Sonic movie, with an alien creature being hunted by shadowy forces for his powers and plenty of fish-out-of-water jokes to lighten the tone.

It's a good time to be a fan of live-action Sonic adaptations right now.

Not only is the Knuckles series airing this year, but a third Sonic the Hedgehog movie is also due to land in December, and its first teaser trailer featured a glimpse of an iconic song from the franchise's history.

Following that, it was confirmed (thanks, Aftermath) that Crush 40's "Live and Learn", which first appeared in Sonic Adventure 2, will indeed make an appearance in Sonic the Hedgehog 3.

That's not the only thing from Sonic Adventure 2 that will feature in the movie, either; iconic series antihero Shadow the Hedgehog will also "star" in the movie, and he's rumored to be played by none other than Star Wars' Hayden Christensen.

Stay tuned for more news on all things Sonic, be they live-action or video game-related.
