Our guide will tell you how to win The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria Narag-Shazon Boss Fight and how you can prepare to take on the final boss.
You'll face many foes in The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria, but none are more powerful than the Dragon Narag-Shazon. Once you've found her Dragon's Hoard, you'll need to equip your best Weapons and Armor and meet her in battle. Keep reading to learn how to defeat the final boss of Return to Moria!
Best Way to Win The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria Narag-Shazon Boss Fight
The best way to win The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria Narag-Shazon Boss Fight is by quickly moving through the area and chasing the dragon into a corner. While you might expect an epic battle, this is actually a fairly simple puzzle boss fight once you know what to do.
Preparing for the Fight
First, you'll need to prepare for the fight. You're going to need the Mithril Spear, a powerful Weapon that can heavily damage Narag-Shazon. That means you'll need to find Mithril.
As for Armor, you may want to Craft a full set of something sturdy. Using the Durin's Guard Armor set or Mithril Armor set would be best, but I managed to finish the fight wearing the Belegost Armor.
It wouldn't hurt to make some Brews, too. Taking along some Evening Ale and Ironheart Stout to boost your defenses would be a plus.
You'll also want to bring the following Resources with you:
- 5 Black Diamonds
- 198 Stone (2 stacks)
- 198 Wood Scraps (2 stacks)
There are two Map Stones that you can repair in the course of the boss fight, and you'll need these items to repair them. You'll also have to build a few Quick Platforms during the fight, so you'll want at least two stacks of Wood Scraps for that.
Additionally, you can bring along the following Resources for Building a Camp and repairing your Weapons and Armor, although these are not strictly necessary:
- 30 Charcoal
- 99 Metal Fragments
- 10+ Iron Ingot
- 30+ Cloth Scraps
Finally, you're going to need some Rations to heal the damage you'll suffer from attacking Orcs and from Shadow. Narag-Shazon will constantly hit you with high-damage attacks and passive damage from Shadow, so you'll need to do a fair amount of healing even if you don't make any mistakes.
Building a Small Base Camp
It's a good idea to Build a Camp just outside of The Domain of the Shadow Orcs with a Bedroll and a Map Stone. I'd recommend that you Build a Repair Smithy so you can fix your Armor if needed, too.
Even if you're well-equipped, there's a good chance that you're going to die at least once. You're going to want to avoid having to run halfway across Barazinbar to recover your corpse and continue the fight!
Heading to Narag-Shazon's Lair and Defeating the Shadow Orcs
Once you're ready, you'll need to make your way into Narag Shazon's Lair. You're going to have to pass through The Domain of the Shadow Orcs to get to the Dragon's Hoard. You'll have to destroy several Orc Camps -- and that means you can open some Orkish Chests, too.
As with most Orkish Strongholds, there will also be a boss to fight here. I strongly advise clearing out all of the Orcs and destroying their camps. If you need to retreat from the fight against Narag-Shazon, the last thing you'll want to do is run into more Orcs!
Clearing the Well of Shadow
Your next step after The Domain of the Shadow Orcs is the Well of Shadow. This looks similar to the circular rooms where you've fought Orc War Chiefs, except this one is special: it is the source of the purple smoke that is plaguing all of Moria.
Entering this room will give you the Goal "Reseal the Wards," but don't try to do anything about this now; you're going to have to come back after you defeat Narag-Shazon. Fight your way into the next room and get ready to do some running.
A Moment's Rest
There is a small room just after the Well of Shadow with the first of two damaged Map Stones. This is a good spot to set up a small Camp if you'd like to respawn closer to the boss fight. I would recommend erecting some barricades to further protect it; Orcs and Wargs absolutely will follow you into this room and wreck your stuff if you leave it unprotected!
The Circle of Spikes
The next room is where you'll actually encounter Narag-Shazon. She is protected by a circle of spiked rocks. The outskirts of the room will be flooded with Orcs and Wargs.
This area might look like a boss arena, but it's not. You can't destroy the spikes or get to the inside of the circle in any way as far as I know -- and even if you could, you wouldn't want to.
Your actual goal is to run around the outside of the room and look for a door that is blocked by several planks. You need to break through these planks with a Weapon or Pickaxe.
While you're in this room, Narag-Shazon will shoot bolts of Shadow energy at you. These can hurt you, the Orcs, and the Wargs. Focus on breaking through this barrier while dodging Narag-Shazon's attacks and fending off the Orcs and Wargs as best as you can.
Climbing the Cliffs in The Balrog's Lair
The next section of the Narag-Shazon fight has her perched on the top of a cliff. You'll have to climb up as fast as you can to chase her. There isn't always a clear route, so this is where you'll want to build Quick Platforms to make your ascent easier.
Keep moving until you get to the top. Narag-Shazon will retreat down a long hallway.
The second broken Map Stone can be found at the top of these cliffs. Repair it, then head down the hallway to your final confrontation with this deadly dragon.
The Final Fight
The last room has just you and Narag-Shazon in extremely tight quarters. Don't attempt to damage her just yet; instead, you're going to need to cause a little destruction first.
There are several pillars surrounding the dragon. Stand behind them and she'll attack the pillars with her Shadow breath, eventually destroying them. When all of the pillars are destroyed, a skylight will open and Narag-Shazon will be blinded.
Once the light has blinded her, you can climb up on a small rock nearby and poke her in the face with the Mithril Spear.
Sealing the Well of Shadow and Reopening Moria
Finishing this fight will unlock the Adamant Hammer, the final Tool that you'll need to repair the Bridge of Khazad-dum and exit Moria through its eastern gates. Return to your base to Craft it.
The Adamant Hammer can repair the statue of Durin in the Well of Shadow. This will restore the magical protections against Morgoth's evil energies and end the threat of darkness in Moria for good.
Once that's done, you can return to the Eastern Bastion in Dwarrowdelf and repiar the Bridge of Khazad-dum. Break the sealed door with Durin's Axe and head through the open path to exit Moria and complete the game.
