Sega and Atlus have announced the Persona 3 Reload release date, as well as releasing a brand new trailer that shows off the game's stylish anime action.
The trailer begins with an introduction to the Specialized Extracurricular Execution Squad, whose job is to investigate increasing incidences of shadows appearing in the city of Iwatodai.
The shadows appear during what's known as Dark Hour, a period of time that warps reality. Only a few people are aware of the Dark Hour, including S.E.E.S., naturally.
It's up to the members of S.E.E.S. to explore the tower of Tartarus, dispatch the horrors within, and get to the bottom of the mystery surrounding Dark Hour. Of course, if you've already played Persona 3, you know all this already.
As the trailer proceeds, we get to see the protagonist exploring Tartarus and engaging in combat, all while a variation of the Persona 3 battle theme "Mass Destruction" plays in the background, with the lyrics to the rap part having been altered and the melodic chorus having been re-recorded.
The combat looks characteristically stylish, as you'd expect from Persona, and naturally, the visuals and performance have been improved over the original Persona 3 and its portable counterpart too.
The rest of the trailer plays out over a montage of clips from throughout the story of Persona 3 Reload, with bits of exploration sprinkled in as well. If you love Persona 3, this looks like it'll be a pretty faithful remake.
Persona 3 Reload was originally announced back in June during the Xbox showcase.
It's a remake of the original Persona 3 with revamped combat, new audio, and a new English voice cast. Notably, though, it won't contain the Persona 3 epilogue added in the game's FES edition (although it will still contain story content that was changed for FES).
Back in July, a trailer was released teasing the game's battle system and new artwork for some of the characters, so Atlus is really starting to build the hype for this one. Makes sense, given that this was apparently Persona fans' most wanted remake.
You'll be able to check out Persona 3 Reload when it launches for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox on February 2nd. The game will also be available on Game Pass on day one.
