Sony has unveiled a new PS5 system software beta, which is rolling out to selected participants starting from today.
Previous system software beta builds have introduced features like 1440p support, and they generally indicate what features will be coming to all PS5 users in future as well.
In this new beta build, a host of accessibility, audio, and UI improvements have been implemented. There's nothing singularly groundbreaking, but there's a ton of stuff that should make your PS5 experience smoother.
First up, you can now use a second PS5 controller as an assist device for a first one. You can use this feature to help a friend navigate a tricky section of a game, for instance, or to help them navigate menus.
You can now also turn on the DualSense's haptic feedback feature while you're navigating menus, giving you feedback when you reach the end of menus or check a box, for instance.
If you've got a Dolby Atmos-enabled device, you can now turn on Tempest 3D AudioTech, which uses your device's audio channels to allow for "even greater levels of immersion" in PS5 game audioscapes.
A number of social features have also been added in this system software beta.
They include an update to the party UI, preview images for shared screens, and easier ways to join friends in activities from your PS5's menu.
A new search function has been added to help you search for games in your library, and Game Help cards have been updated to include more info, like completed activities and an expanded info window.
It's now also possible to use M.2 SSD devices up to 8TB in capacity, although they need to meet the requirements outlined here.
