Today Palworld developer Pocketpair has shared a roadmap for changes and features coming to the game during its early access period.
We hear on X (formerly Twitter) that sales have "far exceeded" the development team's expectations, so the game is experiencing problems due to player access congestion and more.
Due to that, the first priority is solving this issue. After that, the developers will work on implementing new features.
Here's a list of what the folks at Pocketpair are planning as development progresses through the game's early access phase.
Addressing Critical Issues
- Currently, numerous bugs have been identified, and we are prioritizing fixing those.
- Sometimes, the world date may experience rollbacks.
- The loading screen may persist when trying to load into worlds.
- ...and so on.
Improvements to Implement ASAP
- Key configuration improvements.
- Improvements to base Pal AI and pathing.
Planned Future Updates
- PvP
- Raid Bosses (End-Game Content)
- Pal Arena (PvP for Pals)
- Steam-Xbox Crossplay
- Various Xbox Feature Improvements
- Server Transfers and Migrations
- Improvements to the Building System
- New islands, Pals, Bosses, and Technologies.
It certainly looks like the development team will have its hands full for quite a while.
In the meanwhile, we also learn that the game has passed a groundbreaking 7 million copies sold in only 5 days, continuing its triumphant commercial cavalcade which has seen it launch with very flattering numbers since the very first few hours.
If you're wondering, the Japanese X account of the developer clarifies that those 7 million copies are sold on Steam, not including other platforms or Game Pass.
Palworld has recently achieved 1,864,421 peak concurrent users on Valve's platform (according to the monitoring portal SteamDB), which is the second-highest number in the history of Steam behind PUBG. At the moment of this writing, 1,378,392 Steam users are playing the game.
While the game has proven extremely popular, it has also attracted controversies and toxicity. Yesterday, Pocketpair's CEO denounced death threads and slander directed at the game's artists.
Palworld is currently out in early access for PC and Xbox, alongside a version that can be obtained with a Game Pass subscription.
