Continuing the Xbox and Bethesda Game Showcase is a trailer for an upcoming title from Obsidian Entertainment. This game is titled Pentiment and involved the players moving through a narrative adventure in 'ye olde times'.
During the course of this trailer, we see the player taking on the role of a character in a medieval town speaking with the different denizens of the world. This has been labeled a narrative adventure, where the player will be talking with members of the village, discussing issues that they all might be facing, and at one point looking to be getting chased through the village.
In this medieval mystery, game players will live in the world of the Holy Roman Empire in the 15th century. Rumors first started stirring about this game back in late 2021 but today was the first time that Obsidian felt like showing off their new title. There's a focus on the persona and narrative story that the character takes on, while combat is best to be avoided. For fans of Obsidian's other narrative ventures like Fallout: New Vegas and Pillars of Eternity, you'll likely be excited for this new adventure into the past.
Another key factor aside from the narrative-driven gameplay of Pentiment is the art style reminiscent of medieval tapestries. For anyone worried about how those olde texts might hold up Obsidian has also discussed that they've taken accessibility into account including features like the scaling of the font. Obsidian's focus has been that they want to make a game that will be approachable for anyone to play and get invested in.
Pentiment will be available on Xbox, PC, and via cloud via Xbox Game Pass and will be available on day one when it releases. While they didn't show an exact release date we can expect Pentiment to release for these platforms in December 2022.
