New starter sets have been announced for the Pokemon TCG. The Pokemon Company's wildly successful trading card game continues going strong, complete with sets like Obsidian Flames adapted from the bestselling Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. Now, Pokemon TCG My First Battle can be the gateway for newer players to get in on the fun.
Pokemon TCG My First Battle Announcement
According to an ICV2 report, Pokemon TCG My First Battle is a new two-player starter set. It is aimed at helping players and retailers get family and friends started in the popular card game.
To this end, the set teaches two players how to play a streamlined version of the Pokemon TCG. It comes with everything the players need to start a game: two mini-decks (17 cards), 2 playmats, a rulebook, a huge metallic Pokemon coin, and a sheet of damage counters and prize tokens.
There are two different Pokemon TCG My First Battle decks. One deck contains Bulbasaur and Pikachu. The other deck contains Charmander and Squirtle. Since these sets are meant to be an entry point for new players, having Pokemon from Gen 1, the most widely recognized generation, makes sense.
In addition, having streamlined rules can help lower the bar to entry for those not familiar with card game rules or the complexities of Pokemon.
The announcement of Pokemon TCG My First Battle is one of many multimedia Pokemon titles. These include the smartphone application, Pokemon Sleep, which allows users to catch Pokemon during a restful night's sleep, and a new Detective Pikachu game. Even a Pokemon-themed jet was announced.
The Pokemon TCG My First Battle starter sets will be available in retail stores on September 29, 2023. The decks will be sold at an MSRP of $9.99. This is a notably low price point compared to other Pokemon TCG battle deck boxes, which sell for about $22 on average.
