How Raft Research Works

The majority of Raft Research involves destroying individual Crafting materials or other Items to unlock pieces of Crafting recipes. Here's the basics of Research:

1. Craft a Research Table and place it on your Raft.
2. Open the book.
3. Place a Crafting material or Item you haven't yet Researched into the slot on the Research Table.
4. Press the Research button. Warning: the Item will be destroyed in the process!
   1. If it says "Researched," you have already Researched that Item and do not need to do so again.
   2. If the Research button is red, you cannot Research that item since it is not used in any Crafting recipes.
5. The slot for that item will now be unlocked on all Crafting recipes that use it.
6. If you unlocked any new Crafting recipes, you must press the "Learn" button in order to add them to your Crafting list.

Here's a simple example: the Stone Axe takes 6 Plank, 3 Stone, and 2 Rope to Craft. Putting a Plank, Stone, and Rope into the Research Table will unlock the Stone Axe and it will unlock the Plank, Stone, and Rope slots in all other recipes. Basically, you only need to Research each individual crafting material once.

This is how the majority of Research is done, but there are two other Research systems in the game: Blueprints and Decoration Packages.

How Raft Blueprints Work

Raft Blueprints will automatically grant you a new Crafting recipe as soon as you pick them up. Once you've picked up a new Blueprint, you'll see a prompt at the top-right of the screen indicating that you've learned a new Crafting recipe.

Once that's done, however, you still need to add it to your Crafting menu. You need to go over to the Research Table and Learn the new recipe you just unlocked with the Blueprint.

Do You Need to Keep Blueprints in Raft?

No, you don't need to keep Blueprints in Raft. You can throw them away as soon as you've picked them up because you'll automatically learn the Crafting recipe. However, you might want to keep them as a collectible item.

Where to Find Raft Blueprints

Here's where you can find all of the Raft Blueprints we've located thus far:

Antenna Blueprint

Random drop chance from floating Barrels in the water.

Receiver Blueprint

Random drop chance from floating Barrels in the water.

Head Light Blueprint

You can find the Head Light Blueprint in The Radio Tower, the first location you'll visit in the Story.

Recycler Blueprint

You can find the Head Light Blueprint in The Radio Tower, the first location you'll visit in the Story.

Steering Wheel Blueprint

You can find the Steering Wheel Blueprint in Vasagatan, the second location you'll visit in the Story.

Engine Blueprint

You can find the Engine Blueprint in Vasagatan, the second location you'll visit in the Story.

Metal Detector Blueprint

You can find the Metal Detector Blueprint deep underwater in Caravan Town.

Firework Blueprint

You can get the Firework Blueprint by launching the makeshift rocket in Caravan Town.

Zipline Tool Blueprint

You can get the Zipline Tool Blueprint by finding all three Zipine Parts in Caravan Town and assembling them.

Zipline Blueprint

You'll get the Zipline Blueprint by assembling all three Zipline Parts in Caravan Town.

Battery Charger Blueprint

You can get the Battery Charger Blueprint by assembling all three Battery Charger Parts in the Mayor's Office in Caravan Town.

Engine Controls Blueprint

You can get the Engine Controls Blueprint by opening up the locked Mayor's Chest in Caravan Town.

Water Pipe Blueprint

You can get the Water Pipe Blueprint just outside of the Storage Room in Tangaroa.

Electric Purifier Blueprint

You can get the Electric Purifier Blueprint in the Plantation in Tangaroa after you've collected enough Tape to repair the electrical boxes to open up the area.

Large Storage Blueprint

You can get the Large Storage Blueprint in the big blue tower in the center of Tangaroa.

Water Tank Blueprint

You can get the Water Tank Blueprint on the Bridge of Tangaroa after you eject it away from the city.

How Raft Decoration Packages Work

Raft Decoration Packages work much like Blueprints, with one difference -- they'll unlock a new Crafting recipe for a Decoration, and Decorations tend to be about cosmetics rather than function.

Keep in mind, however, that this doesn't mean Decorations don't have any function at all. The Trashcan, for example, can be used to destroy items. The Shelves can be used to store other Decorations, and the Cupboards have a small amount of storage space inside.

Where to Find Raft Decoration Packages

You can find Raft Decoration Packages inside of Barrels, Crates, and anywhere else you can get loot such as Chests and Containers on islands.
