Former Sega Europe CEO Jurgen Post will return to the company as part of some pretty big management changes, Sega Europe has announced.
According to GamesIndustry.biz (which cites a Sega announcement), Post will take up a position as "COO of West Studios and regional managing director" starting from today.
The European wing of the long-running gaming studio will also see two key execs departing their roles: CEO Gary Dale and chief studios officer Tim Heaton will both leave their positions.
This news comes after a somewhat difficult time for Sega.
In November, the studio revealed that between April and September 2023, profits weren't quite as bullish as the company might have hoped for.
Sega points to sales of its new console games, as well as the performance of a free-to-play game (which we assume is Yoko Taro's 404 Game Re:Set), as factors in this disappointing news.
The European branch of Sega hasn't been having the best time of it either; live-service shooter Hyenas, which was in development at Sega Europe subsidiary Creative Assembly, was canceled back in September, along with several other "unannounced titles under development".
It's likely that the reinstatement of Post, who oversaw Sega Europe during a strong period for the company, is an attempt to course-correct after some of the studio's more recent bad news.
Despite the somewhat gloomy outlook for Sega, the company is seemingly remaining positive.
Sega COO Shuji Utsumi recently brushed off rumors of a Microsoft acquisition, stating that he thinks such a deal is unlikely to happen.
In addition, the much-vaunted "Super Game", which was teased as far back as 2021, is very much still on the cards, according to a recent report released by the company.
