Paramount has released the first Sonic the Hedgehog 3 movie teaser, and it features a neat little Easter egg that should please fans of the series.
The teaser was posted to the official Sonic the Hedgehog movie X (formerly known as Twitter) account earlier today, and while there's not much to it, it does show off the movie's new logo in sharp detail.
The most interesting part of the teaser isn't the visual, though. There are two important audio elements at play here: the soundtrack and the distinctive laugh at the end.
The new teaser concludes with a sinister chuckle, which sounds like it might belong to whoever is voicing Shadow the Hedgehog.
The casting hasn't been announced yet, but rumors are swirling that the role could belong to Hayden Christensen, best known as Anakin Skywalker from the Star Wars prequel trilogy and associated media. Whoever it is will join Jim Carrey, who's been confirmed to be returning as Dr. Robotnik.
Perhaps more exciting, however, is the music, which sharp-eared listeners will note is a remix of Sonic Adventure 2's "Live and Learn", a much-loved song amongst Sonic fans.
Naturally, the song has been given an orchestral tune-up for the trailer, but it does suggest that we might be in for some iconic Sonic tunes when the movie eventually launches in December.
The Sonic the Hedgehog 3 movie teaser arrives at a busy time for the Sonic franchise in video game terms.
During this week's PlayStation Showcase, a Sonic Generations sequel by the name of Sonic x Shadow Generations was announced. Try not to let that title percolate in your head too much.
December also saw the release of Sonic Dream Team, a brand new 3D platformer starring Sonic and his pals that's exclusive to Apple Arcade.
We'll have to wait and see what the future holds for the Sonic franchise, but that Sonic the Hedgehog 3 movie teaser should be exciting if you're looking for iconic Sonic needle drops. Stay tuned for more.
