Tekken 8 is the eighth mainline installment of the long-running Tekken franchise. Led by game producer Katsuhiro Harada, Tekken is one of the quintessential 3D arena fighting games that's become a staple of the genre.
The first in the series to use Unreal Engine 5, Tekken 8 boists cutting-edge graphics that "pushes the limits of new-gen hardware and technologies." Character models look sharper than ever, and their muscles literally pop during gameplay.
Players control characters primarily with four buttons, each mapped to a fighter's limbs. With a combination of directional and button inputs, players can execute all sorts of dynamic moves rooted in martial arts from all over the world.
Tekken follows the story of the Mishima family, whose drama leads to sociopolitical conflicts that affect the whole world. Tekken 8 continues this story, focusing on the father-son rivalry between Kazuya Mishima and Jin Kazama. And in a surprise twist, Jin's long-thought-dead mother, Jun, has entered the fray somehow.
Otherworldly creatures, supernatural powers, and brutally honest martial arts make up the core of Tekken's identity, and Tekken 8 is carrying that torch into the ninth generation of consoles.
Developed and published by Bandai Namco, Tekken 8 is slated to release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. At the time of writing, no release date has been announced.
