Terrific Terraria Mods in 2022

Terraria is a nifty 2D survival crafter with a tremendous amount of depth. Bosses and biomes spring up at every turn and it can all feel very overwhelming at first. Still, with time, even the massive world of Terraria becomes stale and in need of refreshment. Add a little spice and liveliness into your game or some new utility with these Terraria mods.

Note that not every mod is mutually compatible, particularly in the case of large mods such as Calamity. As always, back up your data before you begin modding your game. Starting a new character on a new world can help to minimize risk. It also makes uninstalling a breeze and ensures that new content is properly implemented into a world.

Terraria Mod: Terraria Overhaul

As the most popular Terraria mod on the Nexus, Terraria Overhaul lives up to its name. Perhaps the first startling change you'll notice is the implementation of seasons. These last 12 in-game days, changing both the aesthetics and some game mechanics in the world. For instance, summer temperatures melt thin ice. Player characters can now rotate their head and limbs, improving the sense of immersion. Combat is much more fluid, especially melee combat. Terraria Mod: tModLoader

tModLoader is a community effort that allows the easy creation, use, and hosting of modded content. The Terraria developers themselves support tModLoader to work, so it's pretty much an essential download. Some other mods on this list run off tModLoader, especially the larger ones. All players will need to have it installed to play together, so be sure to set that up ahead of time if you plan to play online. Terraria Mod: Calamity

The Calamity Terraria mod is an expansive affair. It adds story, lore, new biomes, new block types, many new music tracks, and numerous bosses. Calamity adds significant challenge, as well. Several of these bosses appear after the final boss of the base game's Moon Lord. Due to its sheer size and scale, Calamity may not be compatible with other mods. It also has a very grimdark aesthetic, so it may not appeal to everyone.

Terraria Mod: TEdit/Terraria Map Editor

Want to have full control over your world, or just take a peek at what it has to offer? Use TEdit. Less a Terraria mod and more of a tool, it's a very easy-to-use app that allows you to edit a game world to your liking. Be warned that this can ruin the sense of exploration and discovery. As a map editor, it spoils chest contents, traps, and biome locations for the world. Still, if you want to know where that floating island really spawned, build something artistic before you start playing, or guarantee a loot spawn, TEdit is there for you.

Terraria Mod: The Legend of Zelda - A Link to Terraria

It's a mouthful of a title, but this nifty mod is a pre-generated world. If you've played Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, you might have an idea of what's in store for you. Nine themed dungeons populate the small world. The mod supports up to four players at once. According to the author, you should play The Legend of Zelda - A Link to Terraria in Journey Mode, along with some simple rules. Explore the world, upgrade your equipment, and find secrets. If you play these sorts of games for exploration, The Legend of Zelda - A Link to Terraria may be the perfect diversion for you. The world is otherwise balanced around vanilla (standard) Terraria.
