Mechanistry has released Timberborn update 4 via the game's experimental branch, and there's plenty to look forward to in this latest update. District limits have been removed, distribution has been reworked, and a whole new map has been added, and there's lots more besides.
Previous Timberborn updates have introduced mechanized workers and made changes to the way resources work, but according to Mechanistry, this new update is "all about addressing...the players' feedback". As a result, district limits have been completely removed, and distribution has been reworked to "make it truly automatic".
Content-wise, the new Craters map has been added to the game, and "multiple faction-specific changes" have been made. These include a new food production chain for the Iron Teeth, with crops and buildings being redesigned to reflect that faction's industrial nature. Most existing crops have been made exclusive to Folktails in order to better differentiate the two factions.
The district rework means that district limits have been removed, a concept that was first introduced as a sort of pseudo-April Fools joke a couple of weeks ago. It turns out the feature wasn't a joke, though, and you can now make a single district as big as you like. Just remember that beavers still have to traverse the length of the district to work, and their efficiency will take a hit if you make them do that.
Distribution has also been made completely automatic, which means workers will now deposit resources in the appropriate warehouse by default. Basic goods, like water, food, and logs, will always be imported even if you don't have dedicated storage. This should make your colony operations that much more efficient.
You can read a full log (no pun intended) of the changes in Timberborn update 4 via the official Steam patch notes. This update is currently only available on the experimental branch, which you can access via the Betas tab (simply right-click Timberborn in Steam, then head to Properties). Timberborn is available right now via Steam Early Access for $24.99 or your local equivalent. Make sure to check out our Timberborn guides to help you create the perfect beaver colony!
