Today Aksys Games hosted a livestream to announce upcoming games, including the localization of Nihon Falcom's JRPG Tokyo Xanadu eX+ for Nintendo Switch.
If you're unfamiliar with the game, it originally launched in 2015 as Tokyo Xanadu, and was then ported for PS4 and PC in 2016 and 2017 with the title Tokyo Xanadu Ex+ as Nihon Falcom added new story content, characters, and features.
The Switch release was announced in March 2023 and released in Japan in June, including all the DLC that were launched for the PS4 version and a handy high-speed mode, closing the circle and returning the game to a portable console after 8 years.
Now it's coming to the west alongside a 4-CD set sold separately featuring all 88 songs from the game, which will be available exclusively from the Aksys store.
The western release will be in June 2024, pretty much exactly a year after the Japanese launch.
The story is set ten years after a massive earthquake seriously damages Tokyo. The hero is a high-school student named Kou Tokisaka who suddenly gets involved with a mysterious organization that is attempting to close vortexes connecting reality with another dimension named "Eclipse."
One of the interesting elements of the game is that, unlike Nihon Falcom's more popular Trails and Ys series, it's set in a realistic setting, specifically a suburb of Tokyo called Morimiya.
What makes it even more interesting is that Morimiya is a fictionalized version of Tachikawa, which is the location of Nihon Falcom's headquarters. The game includes plenty of familiar landmarks of Tachikawa like the iconic Tama Monorail that crosses the town and Showa Memorial Park, renamed Morimiya Memorial Park for the occasion.

Of course, it wouldn't be an Aksys reveal without an abundant dose of Otome visual novels. Despera Drops by RED Entertainment is coming to Nintendo Switch in 2025. Radiant Tale's fandisk Radiant Tale -Fanfare- by Idea Factory is coming for Nintendo Switch in the summer of 2024, and Virche Evermore -EpiC: Lycoris- is coming in the fall of 2024.
We are also getting another visual novel, and it's Tales from Toyotoki: Arrival of the Witch, the localization of The Witch of the Ihanashi by Fragaria. It's coming for PS4 and Nintendo Switch in Summer 2024. Weirdly, the press release from Idea Factory doesn't mention any PC version, which is peculiar considering that the game is already available on Steam, but only in Japanese.
We have reached out to Aksys to ask about this omission, and we'll let you know if we hear anything meaningful.
