Iron Gate has detailed the next major Valheim update currently being worked on. The developer says it wants to be more transparent and less "secretive" going forward, and in that spirit, we're getting our first batch of new information about the upcoming Ashlands biome.
Valheim's last major update was Mistlands, which was a long time coming but which finally arrived in December after a fairly brief public test period. Now that Mistlands is out, Iron Gate says it feels confident revealing info about Valheim's upcoming Ashlands update, which is currently in pre-production.
Rather than consisting of smaller islands, the Ashlands will be a large chunk of land in the south of the map. It'll be a place with a "volcanic nature" and one in which the dead reside, so the current enemy design philosophy reflects that. First up, here's a look at the Charred enemy type, which looks like a pretty classic skeleton warrior.
As well as these enemies, we also got a look at the rather horrifying Morgen, which is a bony monstrosity with skulls lining a wide, gaping mouth.
Iron Gate says that if you're worried about the timeline for the Ashlands update, there will be other content between now and its release to tide you over. Valheim is due to arrive on Xbox consoles sometime this year, and crossplay will be supported (as it is between PC platforms right now), so you'll be able to play with your console buddies if you're a PC gamer.
Valheim's developers also say they're working on adding new difficulty settings to the game, as well as something that's currently called Hildir's Quest, which will introduce new clothing options for your Vikings as well as new hairstyle options and more. Accessibility is also a big concern for Iron Gate; the devs say they want to improve this aspect of Valheim, and that if you have any feedback for features that would improve your experience, you should contact them.
