Games Workshop has spotlighted another army codex coming to the latest edition of Warhammer 40k. Specifically, the new Adeptus Mechanicus Codex brings newfound ingenuity and technical cruelty to the sci-fi miniatures game.

The Adeptus Mechanicus Codex Preview

In an official Warhammer-Community post, Games Workshop goes into further detail about the new rules and mechanics found in the Adeptus Mechanicus Codex. Overall, the preview is a great complement to the Adeptus Mechanicus preview which was shown in May.

Time to improvise some mischief.

The central idea within the codex is that the tech priests have managed to recover samples of rare archeotech, which have greatly advanced their capabilities in battle. The new codex leans into this, allowing you to uncover, assemble, and deploy this rare tech in your games.

Central to this is the new Archeotech Parts rule. Every time you win a Crusade engagement, roll a D6. On a 5 or higher, you gain an Archeotech Part. It can be a Power Source, or you can roll to see if it is a Weapon Part, Force Field Part, or Techno-Arcana Part.

Once you have a Power Source and one other part, you can combine the two into a random Archeotech Treasure. There are 18 of these possible Treasures to construct. These treasures include new weapons like the Nanoshard Projector, which can perform Lethal Hits, or the Void Shell, which can give any unit a 2+ invulnerability save once per battle.

Thankfully, if you don't like the treasure you rolled for, you can expend an extra Power Source to roll again.

The biggest of these treasures by far is Legendary Archeotech. Exhuming these pieces of wondrous technology takes a lot of extra steps, but the payoff is worth it. An example given is The Doom of Thorantus, which can shut down enemy vehicles within range.

The Adeptus Mechanicus Codex will include much more within its pages, including new Agendas, Requisition options, and Crusade Relics. It will be available for pre-order this weekend.
