We are two months into 2024 and major tabletop publishers are already making plans for GenCon. One of those publishers is Paizo, the developer of Pathfinder and Starfinder. For the upcoming GenCon 2024, it plans to show off new books, including an early look at Starfinder Second Edition.
Paizo's GenCon 2024 Line Up
In an official press release, Paizo unveiled several big releases coming to GenCon 2024. The first of these is the Pathfinder Player Core 2 book. This is the second major player supplement for ORC-supported Pathfinder Second Edition Remaster.
This 320-page supplement significantly expands player options. It remasters 8 classes from Pathfinder Second Edition, including 40 archetypes, expanded ancestries, and tons of feats, spells, and alchemical items to provide new player customization.
“Pathfinder Player Core 2 is the fourth core rulebook for the fully remastered Pathfinder Second Edition RPG! These rules are compatible with previous Pathfinder Second Edition rulebooks, incorporating comprehensive errata and rules updates and some of the best additions from later books into new, easier-to-access volumes with new presentations inspired by years of player feedback. Along with the Player Core, GM Core, and Monster Core, these books provide a new foundation for the future of tabletop gaming!” said Paizo Chief Creative Officer and Publisher Erik Mona.
The Pathfinder Player Core 2 book will be available in both hardcover and Special Edition at GenCon 2024. A special sketch cover, illustrated by Wayne Reynolds, will be available exclusively at hobby retailers for a 120-day exclusivity period.
In addition, two new adventures will be available for Pathfinder. One is the first volume of the Curtain Call adventure path meant for characters levels 11-20. The second is Prey For Death, a deluxe hardcover adventure for 14th-level characters featuring the iconic Red Mantis assassin's guild.
Finally, GenCon 2024 will play host to the Starfinder Second Edition playtest. This new edition switches Starfinder to the same rules engine found in Pathfinder. Ever wanted to see how firing a Gatling laser translates to the three-action economy? Now you can.
The Starfinder Second Edition playtest will include 6 new classes, 10 ancestries, new skills, feats, technology, and spells. In addition, the playtest will include a new adventure called Cosmic Birthday. An adventure that involves the birth of a new god, and a group of heroes trapped within the Ghost Levels of Absalom Station.
GenCon 2024 will be held in Indianapolis, Indiana, on August 1.
