While widespread rumors focused on game exclusivity have caused panic among part of the Xbox fanbase, CD Projekt joint CEO Michał Nowakowski is rather happy that his studio isn't involved.
Speaking on X (formerly Twitter), Nowakowski mentioned that all the chatter and gossip on the topic makes him happy that it's not his headache to bear.
He also added that CD Projekt's games are and will continue to be platform agnostic.
Here's the full message:
This whole exclusivity/or not industry gossip and chatter of today makes me happy it’s not my headache. CDPR games are and will continue to be platform agnostic. We love the fact you play the games we made. It’s up to you to choose your playground.
CD Projekt's latest mainline games have indeed been mostly multiplatform. Only The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings launched only on Xbox 360 among consoles, skipping the PS3. The studio went as far as releasing The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on Nintendo Switch, which certainly surprised many considering the challenge of making it run on a weaker console.
Currently, the studio is working on a new The Witcher game (code-named Polaris) and is entering full production on a Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, code-named Orion.
Both games are being developed in Unreal Engine 5, to which the studio has switched from its own Red Engine. Epic Games' engine is certainly well-suited for a platform-agnostic approach. This is especially relevant considering that CD Projekt has recently debunked rumors about an acquisition, then reiterating that the company doesn't intend to sell.
While the rumors (alleging that a number of Xbox exclusive games may be released on rival console platforms) that have caused the gossip mentioned by Nowakoski have not been confirmed, we heard from Microsoft gaming CEO Phil Spencer himself that an event that will "share more details about the vision for the future of Xbox" will be hosted next week.
