Today Atlus announced that its recently released JRPG Persona 3 Reload achieved a big sales milestone.
The game has passed 1 million copies shipped to retail and sold digitally in the first week since its release, making it the fastest-selling title in Atlus' history.
It's certainly a very flattering milestone for a remake of a JRPG, and shows that the Persona series has achieved a level of success and popularity that many wouldn't have believed possible just a few years ago.
The game has been released simultaneously for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC, which certainly contributed to putting it on the fast track for its first million sales.
It's also worth mentioning that it's the remake of Persona 3, which is one of the most beloved games of the franchise. That being said, it's impressive that many fans scrambled to purchase the remake considering that the remaster Persona 3 Portable was released just one year ago.
Yet, the new game is a full remake of the classic PS2 JRPG, and it introduced enough new elements and changes that many did not mind double-dipping or almost. I know I didn't.
If you'd like to join the many currently enjoying the game, you can purchase a physical copy on Amazon.
Atlus has been extremely active over the past few years, and Persona fans also recently enjoyed Persona 5 Tactica, a tactical RPG take on the franchise.
Yet, the Tokyo-based studio isn't done delivering treats this year, as a brand-new IP titled Metaphor: ReFantazio is also coming in the fall of 2024 for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC in fall 2024.
While it certainly comes with elements in common with the Persona series (including many of the minds behind Persona 5), it's set in a completely new fantasy world, which is certainly a departure from the modern setting we're used to. It'll be interesting to see if it'll repeat Persona 3 Reload's success.
